These local institutions provide support, nurture a sense of belonging and offer invaluable resources that are vital for individual and collective growth and well-being. Discover the ample opportunities to learn, connect and create within our wonderful town.

Here are our top 5 community organizations that make an important impact by promoting and fostering growth and companionship.

1. Take hands-on learning to the next level with library programs

What better way to connect with our community than through learning experiences at Cochrane Public Library! Their events calendar is full of library programs for everyone from toddlers to seniors.

Join the Fireside Chats to learn about a plethora of subjects from local experts. Sit in on a conversation with a local author, or try a new creative medium with a woodworking class. There’s always something new to discover at the Cochrane Public Library.

2. Experience local events like never before

Get your party on! Cochrane and Area Events Society throws the best large scale events in our area. Check out their calendar for Canada Day, Labour Day, Christmas and New Years events and fundraisers that’ll wow and entertain the whole family while supporting local organizations.

They’re also spearheading the creation of a public Interactive Mosaic Mural. The piece spotlights the resilience of our community throughout the pandemic, and features the town’s iconic Grandfather Tree. Residents can contribute by submitting original artwork and photography as well as written stories of their COVID-19 experiences.

3. Give back while you shop

Support a local non-profit and satiate your need for retail therapy at Cochrane Home Treasures. The organization supports families in need with household items, and contributes to community initiatives.
Grab a friend or family member and shop their quality second-hand goods for all your home decor. You’ll love perusing the store together for all the unique finds, while also supporting community employment.

4. Repurpose and support while you renovate

Did you know that Home Reno Heaven raises money for the Cochrane Society for Housing Options, a not-for-profit organization that supports affordable housing initiatives and programs in Cochrane, Alberta?
Through their efforts, they hope to provide recycling opportunities for home renovation products, tools and appliances that still have a useful service life and may otherwise be discarded unnecessarily.

5. Hone your people skills by connecting with horses

Spend time with your team or group at Robinson Outreach at Rivercross Ranch (ROARR). The ranch offers programs like classes, life-coaching and more to support seniors and youth in need.

Bond with the horses through exercises while you develop valuable life skills like communication, leadership and teamwork. There’s no horseback riding, and no experience with horses is required.
