Celebrations in July – Cochrane Style!

The month of July is filled with bizarre and unique celebrations. Who knew there was a National Tapioca Pudding Day? Or a National Dive Bar Day? And don’t forget to celebrate National Get Out of the Doghouse Day. Just to name a few!

So what do you feel like celebrating this weekend?

We’ve cherry picked a few ideas from the National Day Calendar to come up with some unique variations on a theme, Cochrane style.  Do them all this Saturday or spread them over the rest of the month. There are no rules, here, except having fun and getting creative with your weekend time.

Start your morning celebrating National Strawberry Sundae Day with a visit to Smitty’s for their mouth-watering strawberry crepes. Who says it has to be a sundae? And if you’re off to the Farmer’s Market, remember to pick up some fresh strawberries for the blender when you celebrate National Daiquiri Day this evening.

Another celebration is National Freezer Pop Day. Can you imagine a childhood without freezer pops? Tragic! I bet you can remember your favourite flavour(s). Our variation on this theme can be found at @ELCreamino’s stand in the Cochrane Farmer’s Market. How about some raspberry-basil ice pops? Fresh raspberries, local basil, and organic cane sugar blended together in one unique sweet and savoury treat. Perfect for strolling the river pathways on a lazy summer morning.

National French Fry Day provides the opportunity to discover the best French fries in town. Accept the challenge: will it be The Venue or the Texas Gate? Or? Toss in National Wing Day and it will be hard to beat The Venue’s 30 different flavours! Lunch is hereby taken care of.

Take a stroll around Historic Downtown Cochrane, visit the shops, and celebrate National Ice Cream Day where else but MacKay’s Ice Cream? Start your own variation on a theme and try a different flavour this time.

Make your way over to Krang Spirits. In the spirit of National Daiquiri Day, pick up some raspberry, sour cherry, black current, blackberry, or blueberry liqueur and reinvent your daiquiri recipe.

Our final suggestion is to celebrate National Junk Food Day and we’ll leave that one open to your own interpretation. Variations on a theme accepted.
