The Best Coffee Shops in Cochrane, Alberta: A Local’s Guide.

For a small town, Cochrane is bursting with excellent independent coffee shops, from a cozy mountain vibe to modern craft coffee to shops loaded with artists and bibliophiles. We’ll share our favourite spots, plus a few hidden gems only the locals know about.

Cochrane Coffee Guide: Quick Reference

Roastery, Fireplace, and Mountain Views

Coffee Traders is a Cochrane institution; this downtown Cochrane spot has been with the same owners since the 1990s.

The Vibe: The log wall interior is cozy and warm, and in the winter, the fireplace can’t be beat. The second floor has a bar overlooking the shop with views out to the mountains (and it’s loaded with plants). In the summer, this patio draws cyclists from all over the region.

The Coffee: Coffee Traders has a roastery attached to the building – everything is roasted in-house. You’ll find some beautifully bold roasts here, as well as a rotating menu of seasonal coffee beverages.

The Food: Coffee Traders has a small lunch and brunch menu, and some of the best giant muffins in town. If you arrive on cinnamon bun day, make sure to snap one up!

Modern Third-Wave Coffee and Micro-Roastery

Relatively new on the scene, a young family owns this historic downtown Cochrane modern third-wave coffee shop and micro-roastery.

The Vibe: Tucked into a small house on Main Street, Vine Coffee is welcoming and comfortable. In the summer, they have Adirondacks on the front lawn that are perfect for people watching.

The Coffee: You’ll find single-source roasts here, as well as house blends, all with distinct flavour profiles. It’s the go-to spot for a flat white, and their seasonal menu always offers something surprising. Owner Kyle has his own Instagram page all about being a barista!

The Food: Vine has partnered with Little Valley Bagel Co., so you can get bagelwiches on certain days of the week (this changes, check their social media). They also have butter block pastries and a to-die-for Oreo cookie.

Authentic Colombian Coffee and Latin Treats in an Art Gallery

Luis and Martha are welcome new residents, and their goal is to bring Colombian coffee right here to Cochrane!

The Vibe: La Casita has two ‘locations’. In the summer, you can find their original coffee truck at locations around Cochrane, and they have just opened a brand new location in the Common Works, a maker space with a super artsy vibe.

The Coffee: La Casita stays true to its roots and serves Colombian coffee exclusively. Expect all of the usual mixed drinks, and an excellent selection of tropical lemonades (we love the coconut and passion fruit lemonade).

The Food: La Casita partners with artisanal baker Panadería Mexicana, to serve delicacies you won’t find anywhere else in town. We highly recommend the conchas (a traditional Mexican sweet bread), the churros, or the empanadas.

Inclusive Bookstore, Record Shop, and Coffee House

Another downtown Cochrane spot, Found is an inclusive space that is delightfully multi-faceted; part new and used bookstore, part music venue, part coffee shop, and part record store!

The Vibe: Cozy couches, eclectic furniture, walls and walls of books, and incredibly friendly and helpful staff.

The Coffee: Found has a diverse menu, alongside great tea and coffee beverages, they serve superfood lattes from Canadian company Bloom – just like the store, the beetroot latte is eclectic, and surprisingly satisfying.

The Food: Found has baked goods on offer daily, you can usually find scones, cookies, and other treats!

Cozy Log Cabin and Artisanal Loose-Leaf Teas

If coffee isn’t your drink of choice, Still Water tea has dozens of high-quality loose-leaf teas

The Vibe: the shop has a distinct cozy log cabin vibe, with little cafe tables for sitting and sipping tea. The aromas of all the loose-leaf teas add to the calm atmosphere.

The Tea: the options are endless. Choose from black, green, white, oolong, rooibos, and herbal teas. While it’s hard to pick favourites, we love the traditional English evening tea, the lychee green tea, and the grapefruit rose oolong tea. Don’t be overwhelmed by the options, the staff are tea experts!

The Food: Still Water Tea does baking in-house – choose from a rotating selection of perfect tea ‘dainties’ squares, cookies, scones, and muffins.

Historic Cafe and Old-Time Favourites

Roza’s cafe is nestled in the oldest general store in Alberta – just 20 minutes north of Cochrane.

The Vibe: owner Beverly calls it “tiny as a shoebox, cute as a button”! This little cafe (there is only one table) is often filled with local farmers & ranchers having coffee. Sip your beverage while you wander through the mix of souvenirs, supplies, and historical artifacts in the store.

The Coffee: Beckoning back to a simpler time, the locals come in for a drip coffee or a cup of black tea. But city slickers can still get a great cappuccino, espresso or latte.

The Food: You’ll find sandwiches and rotating old-time favourites like banana bread, carrot cake, and pie!
