National Ice Cream Day – Italian Style

Gelato is the Italian word for Ice Cream and Mezzo Cafe is offering up this delicious treat right here in Cochrane! They have 10 flavours at a time in their pozzetti and rotate them regularly so there is always something new to try!  They also offer dairy-free, gluten free and vegan options.  According to National Today, “In Italy, Marco Polo returned from the Far East and bought back a recipe for what we now know as sherbet. It is assumed that this recipe developed into what we now know as ice cream which was once called ‘‘Cream Ice.’ An Italian man named Francesco Procopio Dei Coltelli decided to perfect a machine made by his fisherman grandfather which produced top-quality gelato in his café.”
