Arriving to Cochrane by air is easy, Calgary International Airport (YYC) is just 40 kilometres east of the town. The drive from the airport to Cochrane typically takes about 40 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Renting a car is a popular option for visitors who want the flexibility to explore Cochrane and the surrounding areas at their own pace. Cochrane is the perfect hub to explore Calgary, Drumheller, the Cowboy Trail, Banff and Lake Louise.  Car rental agencies are available at Calgary International Airport, including major providers such as Avis, Budget, Enterprise, and Hertz. Advanced bookings are recommended, especially during peak tourist seasons.

Both Uber and Lyft are available at YYC. These services are not readily available once you arrive in Cochrane, so connect with a local transportation provider to get you back to the airport at the end of your stay.

Cochrane, Alberta is easily accessible via well-maintained roads, and is situated right on AB-1A provincial highway, only 14 km (9 miles) off of the Trans-Canada Highway (AB-1)

If you are coming from the east,  directly access Cochrane via Crowchild Trail NW, which seamlessly transitions into the 1A provincial highway (AB-1A). Alternatively, you can travel on the Trans-Canada Highway (AB-1) and take the northbound exit onto Highway 22, which leads straight into Cochrane.

If you are coming from the west, Take the Trans-Canada Highway (AB-1) east towards Calgary.,and exit onto Highway 22 north and continue straight to reach Cochrane. For a more scenic route, take provincial Highway 1A (AB-1A) from Canmore directly to Cochrane. This route features beautiful views, be sure to slow down on this route, there can be wildlife on the highway.

At this time, there is no public transportation to Cochrane.

Local taxi services and rideshare options are available for quick and easy transport within Cochrane.

Cochrane is a bike-friendly community with numerous trails and bike lanes throughout the town. Many visitors and locals enjoy cycling or walking, especially during the warmer months, as a way to enjoy the town’s scenic views and charming atmosphere. There are no bicycle rentals in Cochrane, this option is best if your bring your own wheels.
