Take a ride or a stroll down Bearspaw Trail for an easy 2.2 km. The path winds through blowing grasslands on the north bank of the Bow River, and links the west side of Calgary’s Haskayne Park with Michael’s Creek in Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. This part of the trail will eventually connect Calgary to Cochrane.

Looking for a more challenging route on two wheels?

After a quick caffeine fix and a scone from @cochranebakingcompany you’ll be ready to work for the views at Stockmen’s Trail at Historic Cochrane Ranche. Beginning at the parking lot of Historic Cochrane Ranche, this out-and-back route is a mix of pavement and gravel that rolls through lush grassland and forested area.

Trail 1 is a winding dirt trail that runs along the banks of Big Hill Creek, making for a bumpy ride featuring plenty of rocks and roots. Head north at the trailhead to hop on Ranche Trail 3 for a ride that’s punctuated by thrilling twists, turns, and blind corners.

Conquer the climb to the top of the ridge via Ranche Trail 2. Your heart pumping effort will be rewarded with exquisite views of the town from the Men of Vision Statue—the perfect place to stop and take in the sights.

For longer bike routes, head out to @glenbowranch . You’ll find almost 40 km of pavement and shale to explore. They're even suitable for your electric scooter, so you can coast along surrounded by heavenly rolling hills.

Looking for a family friendly ride?
Head over to Riverfront Park and follow Riverfront Trail to River Ave. A fairly easy ride, the 4.7-km trail runs along the Bow River, surrounded by nature and wildlife including birds like woodpeckers and chickadees. Take a rest stop and snack break at one of the many picnic areas, and with any luck you’ll spot grazing mule deer.

Also starting at Riverfront Park is the Mitford Park Loop, which is a great family bike ride option for older children who can handle a switchback climb—but don’t worry, the views are well worth the work! The lookout provides exceptional views of the mountains, especially at sunset.

Life is a highway! There’s nothing like cruising along winding country roads, surrounded by stunning scenery—especially from behind the handlebars of a motorcycle. Here's three great motorcycle day trips leaving from Cochrane:

1. Cochrane - Water Valley - Bergen - Lochend Loop
Fuel up with a coffee & fresh muffin at @cochranecoffeetraders before you hit the road. Enjoy the sprawling acreages and farmland views and keep your eyes peeled for the historic Dartique Lodge, built in 1934.

In the Bergen area, you’ll also find plenty of picturesque farms and ranches, but don’t miss out on visiting artist Morton Burke’s Bergen Rocks International Sculpture Park.

This loop takes approximately 2 hours to travel without breaks, but you’re going to want to stop and experience rural tranquility and small town charm along the way!

2. Cochrane - Highwood Pass
You’ll love the spectacular views on this 114-km ride, showcasing the highest paved pass in Canada. Stop by @goodearthquarry to get your caffeine fix and a filling snack or lunch before you take a cruise surrounded by staggering mountain ranges. There is plenty of wildlife to see, and there are trails that connect to day use areas, so you can take a break from your bike with a wander to immerse yourself in nature.

3. Cochrane to Bragg Creek – Highway 762 – Plummer’s Road – Priddis
Feel the exhilaration! This circuit takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes, making it the perfect non-stop motorcycle road trip to squeeze in around your other summer activities.

If you have more time, take a detour on Route 66 to the Elbow Falls Recreation Area for a snack and a rest. Watch for the Alberta Wild Horses that roam in the area from Maclean Creek to the start of Powderface Trail.
